UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo
About
The mandate of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) was established by the Security Council in its resolution 1244 (1999). In accordance with its mandate, the Mission helps to ensure conditions for a peaceful and normal life for all inhabitants of Kosovo and advancement of regional stability in the Western Balkans. The Mission’s priorities are focused on promoting inter-community trustbuilding, respect for human rights and rule of law, gender equality and and empowerment of women and youth. The Mission maintains close coordination and cooperation with other international civilian and security presences in Kosovo operating under UN Security Council Resolution 1244 (1999), namely the Kosovo Force (KFOR), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and the European Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), which is deployed in line with the report of the Secretary-General of 24 November 2008 (S/2008/692) and the statement by the President of the Security Council of 26 November 2008 (S/PRST/2008/44). The mission also maintains close coordination with United Nations development partners.
