About
The International Recovery Platform (IRP) is a global partnership working to strengthen knowledge, and share experiences and lessons on building back better in recovery, rehabilitation, and reconstruction. It is a joint initiative of United Nations organizations, international financial institutions, national and local governments, and non-governmental organizations engaged in disaster recovery, and seeking to transform disasters into opportunities for sustainable development. IRP works to advance the field of resilient recovery and building back better. IRP’s work supports progress on Priority 4 of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, enhancing disaster preparedness for effective response and to “Build Back Better” in recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction. The International Recovery Platform (IRP) was established in 2005 following the Second UN World Conference on Disaster Reduction held in Kobe, Hyogo, Japan. It served as a key pillar for implementing the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA), by addressing the gaps and constraints experienced in the context of post-disaster recovery. After a decade of functioning as an international source of knowledge on good recovery practice, IRP focuses on more specialized role as an "international mechanism for sharing experience and lessons associated with build-back-better".
