The FDC was established as a Foundation in 1994, 30 years ago, during a critical period for the country, characterized, among other challenges, by: (i) the post-civil war period that killed one million people and displaced another five million; (ii) climate-related disasters that, in addition to the deaths of thousands of people, destroyed vital infrastructure for the functioning of the country; (iii) low immunization rates in the population; and (iv) the scourge of HIV/AIDS.
