About
In 2018, the Civil Society Empowerment Program was launched within the Basma & Zeitouna organization, which was founded in 2012 by a group of activists with the aim of supporting refugees. Since then, this program has evolved into its current form as a specialized Civil Society Empowerment Unit. This evolution stems from our deep belief in the pivotal role of civil society in driving progress in all social, economic, political, cultural, and environmental spheres, based on solid foundations such as freedom, democracy, and pluralism. Since the unit's inception, we have continued to develop our work and actively engage with other civil society organizations, guided by our core values of human rights, non-violence, citizenship, and gender equality. The Civil Society Empowerment Unit is a human-centered organization that places people at the heart of all our activities and strategies. It was established to strengthen the capacities of civil society and support civic space. The unit strives to achieve a societal impact that contributes to building a civil system based on partnership, participation, and solidarity, ensuring human dignity and rights. At the Empowerment Unit, we are committed to adopting a sustainable approach to capacity building, supported by innovation and development, with the aim of creating and collecting resources and transforming acquired experiences into available and non-monopolized knowledge and skills, which contributes to enhancing the ability of all actors in civil society to achieve positive change.
